The recipe is contributed by Aya Hamanaka , the CLCL Japanese Peer Tutor.

"As long as I can remember, プリン (purin or custard pudding) has been my favorite food. I was fond of the rich and creamy texture and the sweetness of the caramel at the bottom (or on top if you invert it onto a plate!) ever since I was a child. The ingredients are few, and this particular recipe does not include the caramel-making process, so I hope everyone will try making it, especially if you do not consider yourself a skilled baker!  " ~ Aya Hamanak

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • Dash of Vanilla
  • 4 Small Ramekins

Instruction:

  1. Warm the milk in the microwave for two minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix the egg and sugar until smooth. Slowly add the warmed milk as well as the vanilla.
  3. Pass the egg mixture through a sieve twice. Pour into the ramekins and cover each one with aluminum foil. Place them into a frying pan or a pot and pour 3/4 of the way up the ramekins.
  4. Cover the frying pan/pot and heat on low for 15 minutes. Turn off the heat and leave them for 20 minutes.
  5. Cool in the refrigerator and enjoy!
